András Cserna-Szabó: The Time of Tripe

Theatre

This performance explores the journey of this special dish – or the wondrous life of the stomach – from the Hungarian conquest of the Carpathian Basin to the present day, filled with humor, entertaining twists, and musical numbers.
Tripe makes appearances among the seven chieftains, in bustling markets, on court benches, in the Ottoman Empire, later in prison cells, and finally in lively 20th-century scenes.
Throughout its long history, tripe has been served at royal tables, fed the poor, been a dog’s dinner – and even used as a disciplinary tool in the 19th century.
It’s no wonder it has always divided people: they either love it or hate it, but few remain indifferent. What could be its secret?
